.NET vs Ruby on Rails.. Seriously

A client is considering a re-write of a site using either .NET or Ruby on Rails.

The volumes contemplated for the new system are not so large — even at an order of magnitude increase over the system of record — as to rule out Ruby on Rails, and the productivity gains are hard to argue against (and it’s cool).

By the same token, the ASP.NET solution has arguments that favor it as well — mostly around integration with existing implementations within the company and the availability of developers.

So we are working on a technology proof of concept that compares the amount and, to some extent, the quality of a solution done in both technologies in a time limited way.

If we turn up something particularly juicy, you’ll find something about it here.
