So, I’ve finished John Perkin’s book (The Secret History of the American Empire). It is angering, enlightening, and optimistic. If you really want to know what caused September 11, 2001 in the broadest sense that there is a ’cause’, you should check it out. Hint: It isn’t because they hate our freedoms, unless you include the freedom to plunder in that set.
You should also look into Perkins’ Confessions of an Economic Hit Man for some in depth soul searching by the author.
Also, a new book jumped to the head of the line — and I’ve finished it already. It’s George Soros’, The New Paradigm for Financial Markets: The Credit Crisis of 2008 and What it Means. Excellent and not that tough a read although I found the Soros repeated himself in a few places. Maybe because he was rushing the book out to ‘infect’ folks to inspire change in the methods and madness that is the current laissez-faire system. Look into Moral Hazard too and think about Bear Stearns and JPMorgan Chase.
It’s too hard to summarize New Paradigm in a space this small, so you’ll have to read it yourself. It’s fairly short and very current (latest update in the text is March 23, 2008). Recommended.
Still chewing on God Delusion and just starting The Singualrity is Near..
